Save Money Buying A Laptop For College
By Joanne Greco
School can be expensive, and buying a laptop can add greatly to that expense. Here are some tips before you go on a search for the laptop that best suits your needs. Talk to your friends. Find out which laptop is most popular among other students. Chances are, they need to save money too, and can give you ideas about which laptops have the features you want for the least amount of money. Talk to a computer technician about what's available. Do some window shopping before you purchase, and ask the computer techs at various stores about price ranges and features. Make notes on prices, and start comparing them to get the best deal. Do comparison shopping on the internet, as well. When you're ready to buy, start combing through the sale circulars and advertisements for sales on laptops. A lot of stores run great deals around the Christmas holidays and for back to school. Another great time to shop will be right before or after a store does its inventory. This is usually done twice a year, and stores will often run big clearance sales before and after their inventory count. Check with your local stores to find out if and when they will be doing inventory in the near future. A lot of states now have "tax free" weekends that coincide with back to school shopping. This is a great way to save money on a laptop! If your state doesn't have a "tax free" weekend, and you live near a state that does, it might be well worth the trip to do some across state lines shopping that weekend. When you get ready to purchase a laptop, be prepared to do some wheeling and dealing. Ask the salesperson if the price listed is the best that they can do. Sometimes they will include extra features, such as a printer, for the list price. They may be willing to come down a few dollars, too, if they see you are really serious about purchasing. There are a lot of used and refurbished laptops available for purchase. Check classified ads in newspapers, and school bulletin boards. Just be sure that you are buying from someone reputable and that the laptop is in good working order. You may not get every feature you want from a used laptop, but you might find one that meets most of your needs this way. Closeout stores and internet sites often offer refurbished electronics for sale. Just be sure that you can return your purchase if there is a problem. Doing your homework is the best way to save money on a laptop for school. Take your time, see what's out there, and get as much information as you can before you buy. Chances are, you will come out with a great deal! |
